Has America Come To Its Knees?

Coming to our knees means different things to different people. To the secular world, it’s a sign of defeat and shame, but to the Christian, it’s the first step toward victory.

I love O Holy Night, the Christmas carol. When we get to the part where we sing, “Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!” my heart beats faster. Joy erupts. So, when I ask if America is on her knees, it’s with hope.

A list of current events is chilling. Lahaina, the relentless persecution of a former President, ignoring treason in the current White House, FBI, CIA, DOJ, Congressional corruption, child sex trafficking profits that surpass the total of every professional sport combined, sexual mutilation of children, promises of uterus transplants with invitro fertilization for men… I’ve only mentioned some of the degradation invading our home.

Civilizations that die from within

Larry Tomczak, a Christian journalist/cultural commentator for fifty years recently asked if we are in America’s final battle for survival. (article here) He mentions seven contributing factors common to the collapse of past civilizations. See if they sound familiar.

Moral decline, depravity, and demonic activity

Breakdown of the family

Corruption in government and the press/media

Massive national debt

Skyrocketing crime and violence

Uncontrolled immigration and foreigners’ invasion

A weakened military

Our response?

How have we responded? Many have run for local office, made movies and documentaries, orwritten books and articles. Others have chosen to home-school their children, become informed about censored topics and about our Constitution, posted on social media, strengthened their relationships, put their finances in order, and donated money.

Many have also prayed

I’ve written before about Give Him 15 and the Church as God’s Ekklesia (link)—his governing body on the earth, so I won’t go into that, but I believe all the outrage, good works and good intentions we can muster will not succeed without prayer.

This is because the root cause of our Country’s dire condition is sin which is an attitude of the heart. Whether our sin comes out in complacency, passivity, arrogance, or pride, we Americans must come to our knees. We must humble ourselves and cry out for God’s mercy to save us.

This message isn’t new. It’s been heeded publicly by some. I believe it’s been heeded in private by many more since most of us don’t shout our prayers from the rooftops. But what would it look like if our nation came to its knees before God?

I don’t have the answer, but I believe we’re going to find out.

Purpose in America’s founding

Any honest look at our true history tells us that America was founded by people led by God. Its unique freedoms and success come from Him. Our strength was meant to bless not only Americans but the whole world through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the ultimate source of what we enjoy.

God says he will not be mocked. He says those who sow from their sinful nature will reap destruction and those who sow to the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8 NIV)

Both natures are sowing in our country. Individuals will reap as they’ve sown, but what of our nation as a whole? What will we leave to our children?

I agree with many others that because the remnant church has awakened, listened to God and obeyed, we are on the cusp of the greatest revival in history. A move of the Holy Spirit greater than Pentecost. And I believe this will be God’s last call before the final tribulation, however far off that is.

The Bible’s Promise for us

Psalm 37:4 contains one of my favorite cozy-sounding promises. “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” If you read on, the language turns much stronger.

Verse 14-15: “The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. But their swords will pierce their own hearts and their bows will be broken.”

Verse 34: “Wait for the Lord and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.”

God has allowed the evil in our country to be exposed if we have eyes to see. Knowledge leaves a choice before us. Let’s fall on our knees in worship. In hope. In expectation of God’s justice.
