I recently ordered business cards. Why? Because life changes so much when a writer enters the publishing world.
I began my novel as a complete novice and discovered a passion that carried me through six years of effort with joy. The Holy Spirit’s help astonished me. Near the finish, I had faith in my work but dismay at the specter of publishing. My website dropped me into a technological maze—beautiful, but lacking content. Without a writing track record, I had little “about me” information.
I wanted to publish because God had given me an engaging way to share the Gospel with people he wanted to reach. So, when the chance to be part of an excellent book launching course came up, I took the plunge. Two weeks in, stress had stripped away my joy as I struggled to perform like experienced authors who seemed poised to launch their books into the stratosphere.
I’m glad I signed up. I have lifetime access to the video teaching, good notes, and valuable knowledge about branding when I’m ready to put them to work.
In the weeks since my meltdown, God has shown me he’s working on my behalf. An old acquaintance who does marketing for a living reappeared in my life with her plans to write fiction and offers to help me with promotion. A neighbor invited me to participate in a book signing event. I’ve seen that God cares about me and my walk of faith as much as the book’s outcome.
Do you ever find yourself weighed down by the challenges of becoming an author? I encourage you to remember with me that when God calls us to do kingdom work, he is faithful to see us through.
Dear Father, thank you for making us agents of change in this world through our words and the Holy Spirit in us. Teach us to find rest in Jesus as we work yoked with him. Amen.
